What is Capoeira?

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian cultural practice from Brazil in which combat, dance, music, and play come together inside a circle called a roda, with roots in resistance to historical oppression.

Through the metaphor

Capoeira does not happen alone. In the roda—capoeira’s Afro-Brazilian circle of song, clapping, and instruments—two players answer each other move for move, where movement, music, play, and community are inseparable, carrying memories of resistance to past oppression. The ENFP moves the same way: sparking ideas in the back-and-forth with others and darting lightly toward the next possibility.

Its strength is improvisational imagination and a warmth that pulls people in. Where others lean on a fixed sequence, it generates a new move from the exchange itself. The ENFP works this way too—curious, brightening a room, and inviting others into the circle.

But a heart that leaps to the next move and the next circle can leave before finishing the one it started. Drawn to every possibility, its focus and follow-through scatter. The ENFP can drift the same way: starting many things and letting go before any of them ripen.

Strengths & challenges in this light

Through this lens, the ENFP's strengths come down to the improvisation that makes a move from the exchange and the warmth that draws people into the circle. The challenges grow from the same root: leaping to the next move so readily that focus and follow-through scatter. For capoeira to deepen, it has to stay with one exchange—to stay with it long enough to develop it fully.
