What is The Oarfish?

The oarfish is a very long, ribbon-like deep-sea fish that can reach several meters, and its rare appearances are thought to have inspired sea-serpent legends.

Through the metaphor

The oarfish rises from depths almost no one visits, a long silver ribbon so rare it became a messenger of myth. The INFP carries that same otherworldly quality—attuned to a beauty and meaning others pass right by, living along an inner compass of values.

It does not push or fight for space; it moves through the water by its own gentle, undulating sense, drawn toward quiet rather than conflict. The INFP, too, would rather create something meaningful than win a contest, leaning toward sincerity and beauty over the will to conquer.

But a body so fine and delicate is easily torn by rough water, and the oarfish flinches from turbulence back into the deep. The same sensitivity that feels so much also makes the INFP withdraw from conflict, what it wanted to say left unspoken, the gap between its imagined world and the real one weighing on it.
