What is The Griffin?

The griffin is a legendary creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. It appears in the myths of the ancient Near East, Greece, and medieval Europe, often as a guardian of gold and treasure.

Through the metaphor

Rather than fight alone, the griffin reads the field from both sky and ground and assigns who holds where. With an eagle's eye it takes in the whole, and with a lion's authority it stands at the front. The ENTJ likewise takes the center naturally, giving scattered movement a single direction.

A griffin's cry carries far and declares where to go without hesitation. The ENTJ, too, turns a chaotic situation into a clear plan and a decision, fast. More than anything, it dislikes the very time spent hesitating.

The pack follows the griffin because its confidence is backed by victory after victory. But a cry that carries so far can drown out the small voices at its feet. The power to advance fast carries that cost with it.

Strengths & challenges in this light

Through this lens, the ENTJ's strengths come down to the command that gives a group its direction and the decisiveness that cuts through hesitation. The challenges grow from the same root: the speed that pushes the pack forward leaves behind those who need time to think or whose quieter voices need to be heard. For the griffin to keep leading the pack, it needs a pause to listen to the voices at its feet that the cry drowns out.
