What is An Asteroid?

An asteroid is a small, rocky or metallic body that orbits the Sun. Most are found in the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Through the metaphor

An asteroid is small, solid, and unadorned, keeping its own orbit through the cold with no waste and no fuss, asking nothing of the larger worlds around it. The ISTP works the same way: trusting hands-on reality over theory, holding a spare, practical course, and quietly getting on with what actually works.

Its strength is a lean, self-reliant practicality. Where others need a large body to hold them, the asteroid keeps its own course on nothing but its own momentum. The ISTP works this way too—independent and deft, reading a situation as it is and solving the problem in front of it without fuss.

But a body that keeps so entirely to itself can drift out of contact with everything else. Needing no one to hold its course, the ISTP may go so quiet and so solitary that others cannot tell what it is thinking or where it is bound—self-sufficient enough to travel alone, so private that the rest of the system loses track of it.

Strengths & challenges in this light
