What is The Opal?

Opal is a hydrated, non-crystalline form of silica that contains from a few up to around twenty percent water. In precious opal, an orderly array of tiny silica spheres diffracts light to produce its shifting play-of-color.

Through the metaphor

An opal holds no single color; tilt it and a new hue flares where the last one was. The ENTP sees the world that way—turning a problem to catch an angle no one else thought to look from, reflexively finding the unconventional route past any wall.

The play of color inside an opal comes from light scattering through countless tiny spheres—a structure built to take one beam and answer with many. The ENTP, too, argues with itself from several sides at once, testing an idea even from its opposite to see how far it holds.

But a stone forever flashing the next color rarely settles on one. The moment a fresh angle appears, the ENTP easily veers off the path it was on—many routes opened, few walked to the end, and unfinished work left to pile up.

Strengths & challenges in this light

Through this lens, the ENTP's strengths come down to the inventiveness that finds off-the-path routes and the wit that shifts its angle to fit the moment. The challenges grow from the same root: the same hunger for the next color pulls its eyes off the path before the work is done. For the opal to show its full fire, it needs to hold one angle to the light long enough to finish what that angle revealed.
