What is The Lighthouse?

A lighthouse is a tower that shines a light out over the sea, marking the coast and warning ships of danger so they can steer a safe course at night.

Through the metaphor

A lighthouse stands where the danger is and does one thing without fail: holds a steady light so the ships still out in the dark can find their way home. The ENFJ works the same way: sensing who is struggling out there, turning toward them, and holding a warm, dependable light that gives a whole group a direction to steer by.

Their strength is a warm, attentive guidance that turns a dangerous night into a way home. Where others light a lamp for themselves, the lighthouse shines its light outward, for the ships it will never meet. The ENFJ works this way too—perceptive and generous, quick to sense who has lost their bearings, willing to hold the beam steady all night so that everyone else comes in safe.

But a tower that shines all night for everyone else can burn its own lamp low with no one there to tend it. Guiding every ship in, the ENFJ may keep the beam turning until they are running on empty—so responsible for everyone else’s safe passage that they forget the lighthouse, too, needs a keeper to climb the stairs and refill the light.

Strengths & challenges in this light

Through this lens, the ENFJ's strengths come down to the warm, attentive guidance that turns a dangerous night into a way home and the generosity that shines outward for ships it will never meet. The challenges grow from the same root: keeping the beam turning for everyone until they run on empty, with no one tending the lamp. For the lighthouse to keep shining, it needs a keeper too—to let someone climb the stairs and refill the light it pours out for everyone else.
