What is The High Priestess?

The High Priestess is the second card of the tarot Major Arcana, typically shown as a veiled figure seated between two pillars with a scroll. As a symbol it represents the archetype of intuition, inner wisdom, and hidden or unspoken knowledge.

Through the metaphor

The High Priestess sits veiled between two pillars with a half-hidden scroll on her lap, knowing the deep current that runs beneath the calm surface. The INFJ moves the same way—sensing the real need beneath the stated one, reading what a room feels but will not say, and holding steady toward a quiet vision.

Its strength is quiet, penetrating insight. Where others hear only the words, the High Priestess reads the silence between them and holds a knowing she does not need to announce. The INFJ carries that same depth—hearing the unspoken and pairing deep care with a long-range sense of purpose.

But the one who holds everyone’s hidden current rarely reveals her own. The High Priestess keeps the scroll closed and gives quiet counsel until she is drained, never signaling that she, too, needs to be read. The INFJ can fade the same way: so tuned to others that it forgets to voice its own need, holding things in until it burns out.
