What is The Unicorn?

The unicorn is a legendary horse-like creature with a single horn on its forehead. In medieval European tradition its horn was believed to purify water or heal illness, and a maiden was often said to be able to lure or capture it.

Through the metaphor

A unicorn looks not at the words a person speaks but at the true heart beneath them, and so it never appears before a falsehood. The INFJ senses things the same way—picking up the feelings someone has not yet put into words, the currents running below the surface.

A unicorn heals with its horn, but not for just anyone; it quietly gives its strength only to those it judges truly worth protecting. The INFJ, too, pairs deep compassion with an unwavering ideal.

But the unicorn that perceives every wound is the one that hides its own, bearing its pain alone deep in the forest and telling no one until its strength runs out. The INFJ, too, tends to absorb others and keep its own voice tucked away.

Strengths & challenges in this light

Through this lens, the INFJ's strengths come down to the insight that sees the true heart and the steady sense of purpose. The challenges grow from the same root: always attuned to others' pain, it forgets to voice its own wound, which leads to bottling things up and burning out. For the unicorn to keep guarding the forest, it needs to show its own wound to someone before its strength runs out.
